Hi , I (Megan a.k.a. Volunteer Coordinator) have a proposal for the agenda.
It is timely, I may need a decision at the meeting. If there are questions
about it I'll be available over email outside of this coming Wed-Sun.

"Megan's Proposal"

Currently I feel overworked and undervalued in my position at Free Geek. Due
to the climate here, and the exhausting nature of my job. I had decided to
seek employment elsewhere as I am quickly burning out. While writing up a
report on my position and the work I do
http://wiki.freegeekvancouver.org/article/Next_Steps_for_FG_Volunteer_CoordinationI
realized how much more I have to contribute to this position before I
would feel comfortable leaving. In a non profit, I think the best approach
in any position is to do all you can to 'work your way out of your job', in
other words job security is not sustainable, we all need to be easily
replaced without harm to the organization, it is our ethical responsibility
to work towards this, without this mentality we (staff) are only hurting the
organization. I would like this position to be sustainable for the next
person who fills these shoes. It's not there yet, far from it. I have
decided to take better care of myself and in so doing am asking Free Geek to
accommodate the conditions I feel I need to work here happily and healthily.
I am open to alternative solutions if they are mutually agreeable.

Proposals:

1) That all staff do rotating floor shifts = 1 day a week for 3 hours. So
that there are always 2 staff members available to be on the floor between
11am and 2pm when volunteers are set up for the day.

2) That my work week is Thursday, Friday, Saturday + an additional 3 hours a
week for workgroup meetings or collective work = 24 hours per week.

That my rate of pay is fair in consideration of my former rate. 36 hours
down to 24 hours = 2/3 of time worked and so 2/3 of 24,000 = 16,000 a year.

I will not ask for benefits or a top up in lieu of benefits that is received
at other organizations, as the budget has already been passed. But I will
ask that my schedule will be permanent & that I will not lose vacation time
(3 weeks a year), that of course does not mean that a weeks vacation means 5
days, it means a week away from my regular schedule with pay not deducted.
I've already earned and taken 1.5 weeks of vacation here. With this change
in work schedule I would still get the other 1.5 weeks, but instead of 7.5
paid days, that would be 4.5 days.
