holy shit balls batman. what a night. earlier this evening i embarked on a small walk by myself. i didn't get very far from camp when two of the camp dogs went racing past me. seconds later they had a bear up a tree. I watched and laughed as I saw the silly sillouette of a huge bear up a toothpick tree. it kept slipping and eventually fell down the tree almost crushing one of the barking mongrels.

the dogs scared it off and i turned back to camp to get their owners and tell them what their canines were up to. everyone took a walk up to the tree the bear had been in and saw the evidence of what had taken place. It was hilarious or at least at the time, a lovely evenings entertainment in camp. The encounter spawned some interesting stories of which i shant rechant at this time. the crew shuffled its feet off to bed a little later.

I went back to my tent and crawled in my sleeping bag. at about a quater to twelve i woke to the sensation of the foundations of my dwelling teetering. It was the very same bear dragging my tent to the woods with me inside. I started yelling and hollering and woke the tenters next to me. the bear let go. my neighbour nick came out of his tent and shone his flashlight around. The bear was lurking behind some poplars. I clothed myself, which is a remarkably tough thing to do in a collapsed tent without a light. when i got out of the tent i surveyed the wreakage. it had grabbed my guitar case through the wall and took a chunk out of it. "glad that wasn't my head" is all that i could think.

Currently i am chilling out in the rec hall of this MNR base. i cant sleep. The damn thing is waiting in the bushes and it wants to chew on my tent. wait a minute...

it just came back...

........ we scared it off with a diesel truck. its still in the bushes i know it. Anyhow now i have to get a new tent. And i think i may go to sleep with my shovel from now on. so much for living the high life of a tent dweller. looks like its tarps and bug dope for me, just like the old days. (sigh). unless something neato happens, like someone drives me into town to get a new house.

just another day in the life of a tree planter
